Victoria State has seen 33 people test positive in the last 24 hours. Daniel Andrews, State Premier announced an increase in testing for the ten worst affected areas. Mr Andrews said: “We have ambulances and other vans that will literally be at the end of people’s streets.
“We will see these numbers go up in coming days.”
About 100,000 tests will be provided for over the next ten days.
Linda Reynolds, Defence Minister, confirmed 1,000 military personnel will arrive in Victoria on Friday.
Around 150 will help with testing with the bulk assisting in quarantine for new arrivals.
Qantas, Flight Centre, ABC and Woolworths have let go a combined 9,000.
The government closing borders has had a detrimental impact on the aviation industry.
On Thursday, Qantas confirmed the axing of 6,000 jobs.
According to Daily Mail Australia, this constitutes 20 percent of its workforce.
All international flights with the exception of those between Australia and New Zealand are cancelled until September.
Qantas CEO Alan Joyce told reporters: “We have never experienced anything like this before – no-one has.
“All airlines are in the biggest crisis our industry has ever faced.
“Revenues have collapsed, entire fleets are grounded and the world biggest carriers are taking extreme action just to survive.”
Mr Joyce said he expected it would take three years for global travel to return to pre-coronavirus levels.
