The two passenger trains collided earlier this afternoon in the Karlovy Vary region, near Pernink. About 30 people are understood to have been injured in the crash, including three fatalities. The accident took place on the line which connects Pernink village with the spa town of Karlovy Vary.
Two helicopters and other emergency services have rushed to the scene.
The two trains that collided were the 17110 (Karlovy Vary – Johanngeorgenstadt, Regionova) and 17113 in the opposite direction (RegioShark).
Jan Kučera, Inspector General of the Railway Inspectorate said at least one person died immediately after the crash.
He said: “We have launched an investigation. According to the Railway Administration, at least one person was killed on the spot.”
Czech Television report that at least three people are dead, according to rescuers from the scene.
