Scotland’s PIRC, which provide independent oversight and investigate incidents involving the police in Scotland are looking into the death of a man who was shot by armed police during the incident this afternoon. 

Six people including a police officer were injured during the incident and are in hospital. 

A spokesperson for the PIRC told Express.co.uk this evening: “Following the incident today in West George Street, Glasgow, the PIRC, in accordance with our statutory powers, has received an instruction from the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) to carry out an independent investigation into the death of a man who was shot by armed police during the incident.

“We are currently liaising with Police Scotland on the management of post incident procedures following this incident.

“Once our investigation is concluded, a report on the Commissioner’s findings will be sent to the COPFS for consideration.

“It would be inappropriate to comment further.”
