Several images have been shared on Twitter of a cardboard cut-out of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in the crowd at the City Ground in Nottingham. The pictured versions of the Duke of Duchess of Sussex, watched-on along with a number of other familiar faces to see Nottingham Forest host Huddersfield Town in the Championship.
The coronavirus pandemic has meant football fans are unable to attend live matches, however many grounds have offered supporters the chance to have their face projected onto cardboard cutouts and placed into the ground.
Nottingham Forest launched the “We Are With You” campaign which allows supporters to have cardboard cut-out with a picture of themselves installed inside the stadium for a fee of £20 – with more than 1,300 fans taking up the opportunity.
As a result the hilarious stunt for Meghan and Harry has set back one royal fan £40.
Comedian and Nottingham Forest loyalist Matt Forde wrote on Twitter: “Fair play to the Forest fan who paid £40 to have Harry and Meghan at the game.”
A number of other stunned royal watchers could not believe what they were seeing.
One wrote on Twitter: “Can’t believe Prince Harry & Megan are Notts forest fans, they’re there in cardboard form.”
A second added: “Crikey Prince Harry and Mrs Markle are Forest fans”.
A third said: “Just seen that, nice of Keaneo to drop by.
“He was also joined by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle amongst other former forest greats and Mick Hucknall”
Meghan and Harry were joined in the ground to cheer on the players by a number of Forest legends including Roy Keane – a hilarious picture of the former Manchester United captain holding an ice cream was printed onto cardboard.
