Met Office weather forecasters have updated weather warnings over the UK today, as the country braces for heavy rain and lightning following some of the hottest days of 2020. The yellow warnings state rainfall will tear through much of Britain until the weekend. The forecasters have extended the probability of severe weather conditions in some places and removed them elsewhere.
The warning states while many areas of the UK will “miss” the storms, those which receive them will see torrential downpours.
The warning reads: “Heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to break out on Friday afternoon and evening.
“Many places will miss the storms, but where they do occur, torrential downpours could bring 30-50 mm rain in a hour, with hail and lightning.
“The storms will slowly clear northeastwards on Friday afternoon and into the evening, though will probably not clear northeast Scotland until Saturday morning.
