Sabudana (or tapioca) has become the new superfood of sorts, but the truth is that it has been part of our desi diet since time immemorial. Tapioca balls have a unique spongy texture when boiled; and when they are deep-fried, they gain this delicious crispy exterior. It is difficult to decide what we like the best – boiled or fried! We think we are biased towards everything one can make with sabudana. So when we bumped upon this sabudana bonda recipe by YouTuber Parul, our happiness knew no boundaries.

This crispy, fried bonda recipe is made with easily available ingredients like sabudana (make sure you wash it well), dahi, water. You need to soak the sabudana in a mixture of curd and water for at least 3-4 hours for the tapioca balls to puff up. To these puffed up sabudana add green chillies, ginger, grated coconut, coriander leaves, jeera, curry leaves, sendha namak, black pepper powder, flour made of samak chawal (which you can make at home). Mix everything well, add fruit salt/baking soda and water. Pull out the bondas from the mix and fry them until crispy.

You can pair your bondas or pakodas with coconut chutney or any dip of your choice.  If you are having it on non-vrat days, you can substitute this samak chawal atta with rice flour or even maida.

Though the two are not related in any obvious way, they can both be a source of anxiety. Having difficulties conceiving can cause psychological distress, which may affect relationships. Animal studies have found that ashwagandha supplementation significantly decreases levels of these blood fats.

One study in rats found that it lowered total cholesterol and triglyceride levels by 53 percent and nearly 45 percent, respectively.

While controlled human studies have reported less dramatic results, they have observed some impressive improvements in these markers.

In a 60-day study in chronically stressed adults, the group taking the highest dosage of standardised ashwagandha extract experienced a 17 percent decrease in LDL (bad) cholesterol and an 11 percent decrease in triglycerides, on average.

LDL cholesterol is generally regarded as the most harmful type of cholesterol because it sticks to the inside of your artery walls.

While it is important to include cholesterol-lowering items in your diet, focusing on your overall dietary approach is what counts.

“You can lower your cholesterol by eating healthily and getting more exercise,” says the NHS.

A cardiac arrest is when a person becomes unconscious and stops breathing. Don’t hesitate, call 999 if you’re concerned.

Type 2 diabetes causes a person’s blood sugar levels to become too high, and can lead to serious health complications if left untreated.

A study carried out on mice on a high-fat diet found supplementing with rosehip power over a 10 to 20 week period significantly decreased blood sugar levels, fasting insulin levels and fat cell growth in the liver – three risk factors for type 2 diabetes.

Rosehip tea may also aid weight loss.


Obesity can lead to a number of serious and potentially life-threatening conditions, including type 2 diabetes, coronavirus heart disease and some types of cancer.

But studies have shown rosehips from the rosa canina plant are high in an antioxidant called tiliroside, which may have fat-burning properties.

An eight-week study carried out on mice prone to obesity found those fed a high-fat diet containing 1 percent rosehip extract gained significantly less body weight and stomach fat than those that didn’t receive the supplement. 

Human studies have shown similar results.

A 12-week study involving 32 adults with excess weight showed taking 100mg of reship extract daily significantly decreased body weight and stomach fat, compared with the placebo group. 

While rosehip’s potential to help the inside of the body live longer, it’s also been shown to help the outside.

Rosehip is believed to help fight skin ageing, and is used as an ingredient in an increasing number of beauty products.

Vitamin C has been shown to promote collagen synthesis and protect skin cells against sun damage – two things that can help keep skin looking tighter and more youthful. 

Rosehip tea also contains the carotenoid astaxanthin, which has been shown to have anti-ageing effects by helping prevent the breakdown of collagen.
