'Am I done?' Charles III overcome with emotion in behind-the-scene clip after speech

King Charles spoke to the nation about the sorrow the Royal Family has been experiencing in his first speech to the nation a little over 24 hours after the Queen’s death. His Majesty maintained his composure throughout his delivery, speaking of his love for his “darling mama” and thanking the public for their widespread show of support since the news broke. But in footage recently released of the immediate aftermath of the recording, the impact of the recent events was evident in Charles III’s expression as the newly anointed sovereign asking “am I done?” to ensure he had done his duty.

And in response @adesigndiary said: “I was thinking the same thing when he was speaking …imagine having to face all these strangers on one of the most difficult days a person has to face, and to do it with grace and strength. Huge burden to carry.”

During his speech, the king said: “I speak to you today with feelings of profound sorrow.

“Throughout her life, Her Majesty The Queen – my beloved Mother – was an inspiration and example to me and to all my family, and we owe her the most heartfelt debt any family can owe to their mother; for her love, affection, guidance, understanding, and example.

“Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing. That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today.”

“They mean more to me than I can ever possibly express.

“And to my darling Mama, as you begin your last great journey to join my dear late Papa, I want simply to say this: thank you.

“Thank you for your love and devotion to our family and to the family of nations you have served so diligently all these years.

“May ‘flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest’.”
