Brit man, 60, injured after being ran over by speedboat propeller in ‘millionaire’s marina’ on Spanish coast

A BRITISH man has suffered serious injuries after being run over by the propeller of a speedboat in ‘millionaire’s marina’ on the Spanish coast.

The boat cut through the 60-year-old’s right thigh near his genital area just after 4pm on Thursday in the holiday resort of Mallorca.

Maritime Rescue, an ambulance, the Civil Guard and the Local Police attended the scene

He was rushed to Son Espases Hospital in the island capital Majorca after being brought to shore and stabilised at the scene.

He is also understood to have suffered injuries to a foot and ankle, police said.

Hospital officials could not be immediately reached on Friday to comment on his condition.

The drama happened in the sea off the millionaires’ marina of Puerto Portals.

It has not been made clear if it occurred near a small beach close to the port or in the port itself and whether the speedboat had hit the swimmer in a bathing area or if the injured Brit was outside of an area off limits to boats.

A spokesman for the Civil Guard, which is probing the incident, said the boat involved in the incident was a rented vessel and the skipper had stopped and had been fully identified.

He said: “The matter is now under investigation so there is nothing more I can add at this stage.”

Coastguard officials were involved in the operation to help the Brit reach dry land and he received emergency medical attention in the port before being taken to hospital in an ambulance.

Last July two German tourists were badly injured after a boat ran over them off the virgin beach of Es Trenc in Majorca where holidaymakers had to be temporarily evacuated on Wednesday because of a wildfire.

One, a 20-year-old, had his arm amputated and the other, a 26-year-old, lost a leg.
Local reports at the time said they had been diving without the proper equipment far out from the normal bathing area.
