Catherine Tyldesley swaps the drama of soapland for the glitz and glam of the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor this year. Unveiled as one of the first celebrities competing on the BBC dance contest in 2019, Tyldesley will undoubtedly already have a vast fanbase thanks to her Eva Price days on ITV soap Coronation Street. Tyldesley left the role back in 2018 and previously told Express.co.uk exactly why she made the decision.

Why did Strictly’s Catherine Tyldesley leave Coronation Street?

Eva Price said her goodbyes to the residents of Coronation Street in 2018.

Tyldesley’s last appearance on the ITV soap came in August that year as her character left to start a new life in France.

The Strictly star went on to star in Channel 5 mini-series 15 Days earlier in 2019 before snapping up the opportunity to appear on BBC’s annual dance competition.

Earlier this year, Tyldesley revealed exactly why she left the soap when asked about other Corrie stars who have chosen to cut their time on the Cobbles short.

Tyldesley said: “For me, it was just the right time to go. I think everyone has got their own views and stuff, I can’t speak for everyone else.

“I’d been there for seven years and I wanted to have a bit more family time and work on projects.

“I suppose some of the other people who are leaving, their reasons might be similar, I’m not sure.

The former soap star did add: “Everybody I know that is leaving or has left, they don’t have anything negative to say about it at all.”

WHO IS NEW STRICTLY 2019 JUDGE MOTSI MABUSE?

The Strictly star spoke about the difficulties surrounding keeping her involvement a secret.

She said on the ITV programme: “I feel like I’m in the FBI,

“The other day I came down and they had to take my measurements and they said to me ‘your code name is Jasmine’,

“I get to the driver and I go it’s Catherine, no, Jessica, no, it’s Jasmine!”

Tyldesley also revealed she “can’t really dance” but thinks her personal trainer husband Tom could be the key to nailing the routines.

The former Coronation Street star will be competing against the likes of David James, Chris Ramsey and Emma Barton on Strictly.

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 returns to BBC One this autumn.
