Chelsea are reportedly exploring the option of signing Borussia Dortmund starlet Youssoufa Moukoko on a free transfer after Armando Broja suffered a horror injury during the Blues’ friendly game with Aston Villa. The Albanian striker could be heard screaming in pain before he was stretchered off and boss Graham Potter admitted that he could be out with a long-term injury.
“It was an unfortunate action,” Potter said in a worrying update after the game. “I think he got caught up with their player and the ground. It doesn’t look positive at the moment, but it is too early to say. Fingers crossed, but it is an awkward one.”
With Broja set to be out for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Chelsea only have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kai Havertz as recognised senior strikers in Potter’s squad. Neither have shown the necessary form this season to prove they deserve to be the number one striker, as the ex-Arsenal captain has just the one Premier League goal this season while the German has three from 13 appearances in the league.
The Athletic claim that while a deal to sign Moukoko is not done, league rivals believe that it is advanced. The 18-year-old has made 14 Bundesliga appearances this campaign, including eight starts, and has also appeared in six Champions League games. He is, however, out of contract at the end of the season, and Chelsea could sign the German teenager on a free contract.
