Double rainbow seen over Buckingham Palace as thousands flock to London after Queen dies

The New York Times also reported that following the news of the Queen’s death, “after a hush, people broke into ‘God Save the Queen’”.

By 7.30pm, BBC Home Editor Mark Easton said “thousands, perhaps tens of thousands” of people had turned up to Buckingham Palace.

Shorty before this time, the Queen’s eldest son, Charles, now King, released a statement.

He said: “The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.
