England boss Gareth Southgate changes plans after talks with players about Queen's funeral

“I was proud to have her as our patron and to sing God Save The Queen before every match.”

England’s players have just two matches to convince Southgate that they should be in his plans for the World Cup. The Three Lions face Italy and Germany in two tough clashes this month, in their final fixtures before the tournament.

Southgate will announce a squad for the upcoming internationals on Thursday. As a mark of respect to the Queen, the 52-year-old will not conduct his usual post-squad announcement press conference.

England will then travel to Italy for Friday’s Nations League game in Milan. Wembley will then host Germany in the first men’s international on home soil since the death of the Queen. That match is scheduled for September 26.
