FURIOUS Chelsea fans have demand a Super Cup replay as footage revealed Liverpool keeper Adrian was off his line for his winning penalty save.
The Champions League holders piped Frank Lampard’s Blues in a shootout in Istanbul last night after a 2-2 draw.
Striker Tammy Abraham missed the final spot kick as Anfield No2 Adrian saved with his leg to clinch the Super Cup in Turkey.
But replays showed the ex-West Ham keeper was off his line just before he made the all important stop.
Chelsea fans raged on Twitter as VAR was not used to penalise the Liverpool keeper for his illegal positioning.
One said: “So, genuinely what is the point of VAR?! Adrian clearly has both feet off the line when Abraham strikes the ball, but it’s not been retaken. Utterly ridiculous.”
Another said: “Keeper of his line under new rules but allowed – what’s the point of VAR?”
Adrian said after the shootout: “It is really difficult to be on the line because we need a step forward to push but in the end we need to wait until he strikes.”
Before Chelsea fans called on VAR to save them in the shootout they saw two goals ruled out for offside.
First new winger Christian Pulisic – signed from Borussia Dortmund in January – believed his strike five minutes before half-time had made it 2-0 having set up Olivier Giroud for the opener.
But VAR ruled the American offside, and 20-year-old Mason Mount would suffer the same fate 15 minutes from full-time after his drilled left-footed finish counted for nothing.
Sadio Mane’s double cancelled out by a Jorginho penalty sent the game to penalties, where Lampard was handed a second consecutive defeat.
But the Blues go into their first home game of the season against Leicester knowing they were a couple of yards away from beating the champions of Europe.
