Emergency services, including paramedics, forensics officers and plain-clothes police, have swarmed to a Rochdale housing estate, with a cordon in place. A large number of police vehicles were reported on Atholl Drive in Heywood early this morning, with the road reportedly taped off.

Specifics about the nature of the emergency have yet to be confirmed although one resident told the Manchester Evening News police had been there since 6am.

Pictures showed officers at the scene, police vehicles and tape. Express.co.uk has approached Greater Manchester Police for details.
