HOLLYOAKS’ Ste Hay was forced to beat Jed to a pulp by facist gang in a shocking twist for the soap at the end of Tuesday night’s episode.
The troubled character has been manipulated into joining a far-right group by Stuart and Jonny for months, but looked set to turn things around when new guy Jed warned him about them and tried to encourage him to turn them in.
However, Ste decided to stay loyal to his friends about Jed’s plan for the two of them to go to the police together and they later forced Ste to carry out the violent attack.
Kieron Richardson, who plays Ste, opened up about the recent development in his character’s story line during a recent interview and hinted that this might be the first sign of change.
He told The Mirror: “I’m sure the audience have been screaming at the telly. The episode before they finally thought it was gonna be over, but he’s so deep into it and they’ve got such a hold on him that it’s not gonna be easy for him to just go back to his family, if they’ll even allow it.”
He added : “Jed has planted this seed of doubt in his head and he’s questioning a lot of things, and I think to try to be loyal to Jonny and Stuart after all they’ve done for him, he tells them what Jed has done.
“They get into his head straight away and say he’s lying, and then at the end of the episode it’s all thrown back onto Ste’s shoulders. Jonny and Stuart say they need to teach Jed a lesson when as a matter of fact, it’s ‘You’re gonna be the person to do it’, so Ste has to beat him up.”
Meanwhile, fans of the Channel 4 soap were left horrified last week after Sami Maalik was blinded by a mystery attacker- which they thought was Ste.
The solicitor – who is played by actor Rishi Nair in the Channel 4 soap – was left screaming in pain after being attacked and sprayed with pepper spray.
Viewers watched in horror as a masked thug surprised Sami as he walked to the shop to restock for his family’s Eid celebrations – and the height and build of Ste Hay.
Ste was wound up by racist thugs Jonny and Stuart after he was told he couldn’t have Hannah around the thugs by her mum Sinead.
But with Sinead spending Eid with her boyfriend Sami and his family, Ste demanded to see her.
Going on a racist rant, he launched into a rage against Sami before being sent on his way and later returned with the two thugs who tried to provoke Sami and his family into an attack with their racist abuse.
And when they were sent packing, Ste was horrified when his own daughter turned on him saying she was disgusted by his actions and she wished Sami was her dad.

Jonny then encouraged Ste to take revenge on Sami and not let him “turn your own daughter against you”.
The story line has been building since March, but Kieron Richardson confirmed it will come to a head next month.
He teased: “The story is continuing and there’s a big climax in September. He’s deep in the far-right now and it’s about how he gets out of that.”
