Horrific moment French sports champion bites head off a live rooster and smiles at the camera

A FRENCH sporting champion faces legal action after vile video emerged of him biting the head off a live rooster.

Sportsman Bixente Larralde, 22, grinned at the camera after he was filmed sitting down and gnawing the animal’s head from its body.

He grips the chicken tightly, clenches his jaws and pulls until the rooster’s head is severed from the animal’s body.

He then opens his mouth to drop the rooster’s head on the floor and smiles at the camera, as onlookers laugh and yell.

Larralde is the current Basque Pelota World Champion with France.

But the footage has prompted outrage in his home country, where the cockerel is the national symbol.

Basque pelota is the name for a variety of court sports played with a ball using a hand, a racket, a wooden bat or a basket, against a wall or with two teams face-to-face separated by a line on the ground or a net.

The video has generated outrage among viewers, with ‘HeliopolisPride’ writing: “What a disgusting person, my God… Someone should do that to his balls”

Larralde refused to comment to Basque news site Mediabask, with legal action pending.

The video may have legal and financial repercussions for the player.

An online petition has nearly 11,000 signatures vying to get Larralde sacked by the French pelota federation.

The Brigitte Bardot Foundation has announced they are going to take the champion to court for “pure violence against animals” calling his enjoyment of the incident “cruel and sadistic”.

If Bixente is found guilty, he will reportedly be forced to pay up to a £27,800 fine.

The Brigitte Bardot Foundation is an animal rights foundation that was started by the French actress with the same name in 1986.

A man was branded “shocking and deeply disturbing” for biting the head off a pigeon last week.
