I’m getting over my wife’s death by dating a woman who’s much younger than me

DEAR DEIDRE: HAVING lost my wife 18 months ago following a long illness, I have recently fallen for a much younger woman.

I met her through a local walking group. I am 69 and she is 43 and single. We got on like a house on fire right from the start and I realised I was falling in love with her.

She has now admitted she loves me too.

It’s wonderful and not something I ever thought would happen at my age.

But we worry about what our families and friends will think about the large age gap.

I do not relish the idea of being disapproved of.

DEIDRE SAYS: Do not let other people’s views deprive you of a loving relationship.

All that matters is how you and your new partner feel, so enjoy what you share. Anyone who really cares for you will be happy for you.

If the gossips get going, ignore them. You are doing nothing wrong.

They will soon move on to talk about something else.
