JEREMY Corbyn sparked uproar yesterday by saying Labour would not block another Scottish independence referendum.

He said Westminster should not stop Nicola Sturgeon’s attempt to tear the United Kingdom apart.

Then leftie boss doubled down after his right-hand man John McDonnell said it was not for the “English Parliament” to stop an indyref2.

Mr Corbyn said he does not think another referendum “is a good idea”.

But he added: “It’s not up to Parliament to block it.”

His words directly contradict the party’s own leader in Scotland, Richard Leonard, who said Labour will not back another vote.

Ian Murray, the Labour MP for Edinburgh South – a vocal critic of Mr Corbyn – said: “Jeremy must understand that it’s Richard Leonard and the Scottish Labour Party that makes the policy and not him.”

Scottish Tory deputy leader Jackson Carlaw said: “Simply put, Jeremy Corbyn has surrendered on a second independence referendum.

“Both he and John McDonnell are preparing to hand Nicola Sturgeon the referendum she wants in exchange for SNP support for a Labour Government.”
