Jurgen Klopp is repeating old FSG tactic to force late transfer window move for midfielder

Jurgen Klopp appears to be repeating one of his old tricks in order to coax Liverpool owners FSG into dipping back into the transfer market late on to sign a midfielder. With the Reds short of numbers in the middle of the park having seen injuries ravage their ranks, Klopp appears to once again be making considered comments in order to get his way.

After acquiring Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay early on in the window, Liverpool were thought to have concluded their summer transfer business. On countless occasions, Klopp insisted he was content with the players currently at his disposal and the Reds wouldn’t be adding to their roster. However, that stance soon changed.

Amid a crippling injury crisis, the Reds boss has recently hinted at a change of heart, making several comments which suggest he is keen to add to his numbers before the transfer window closes in just over a week’s time. Ahead of his side’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace last Monday, Klopp said: “The thing is, it is easy for us to bring a midfielder in, but it is not so easy to bring the right midfielder in. There are money reasons and contractual reasons which, most of the time, go hand-in-hand.

“Now the situation has changed slightly – we have more injuries, that’s true. But it can still only be about the right [player] and that is not easy. It is nothing to do with that it is now August already and at the end of August, the transfer window closes.

“It’s just because it is 2022 and people have contracts until 2024, 2025 or 2026. That’s the situation and that’s why we have to be calm and sort our problems with the boys we have. It’s all about solutions and only one of these solutions is the transfer market – all the other solutions are here.”

With Klopp appearing increasingly open to adding to his ranks before the window closes, it remains to be seen whether FSG will heed his pleas and act accordingly by dipping back into the market. If history is anything to go by, there’s still a chance they could.

Back in January 2021, defence was the area of the pitch in dire need of reinforcements as injuries again took their toll. At the time, having previously stressed he wished to avoid a short-term solution, Klopp then made strikingly similar comments to the present day by suggesting the club may have to accept it’ll be down to the rest of the squad to cope with the selection setbacks amid desperate times.
