Kate Middleton has succeeded Prince William as honorary Colonel of the Irish Guards as King Charles “shakes up” the Royal Family’s military patronages. The Princess of Wales, 40, was handed the role as Buckingham Palace revealed the Trooping the Colour will take place on June 17.
She previously attended engagements with the regiment and even greeted mascot Seamus dressed in green at Mons Barracks in Aldershot for the annual St Patrick’s Day parade.
Prince William, also 40, will move over to take on the same role in the Welsh Guards.
It will likely help the Duke forge closer ties with the principality, having become the Prince of Wales earlier this year.
Changes have come about since King Charles III ascended to the throne following the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II in September.

The Duke of Cornwall led the Micks through the Trooping the Colour for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in May.
Kate watched her husband and father-in-law Charles in action alongside the now Queen Consort Camilla.
King Charles also handed his wife some additional titles to take on.
Queen Camilla, who is already Colonel-in-Chief of The Rifles, will become Colonel of the Grenadier Guards.
Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “With the Queen’s approval and agreement, the Duke of York’s military affiliations and Royal patronages have been returned to the Queen.
“The Duke of York will continue not to undertake any public duties and is defending this case as a private citizen.”
The 62-year-old later settled the civil lawsuit with Virginia Giuffre and always denied any wrongdoing.
