Adrian joined Liverpool in the final days of the transfer window as cover to No 1 Alisson.
However the Brazilian was injured during Liverpool’s opening Premier League win over Norwich, handing Adrian his Reds debut.
Alisson is expected to be out for a few weeks and former West Ham goalkeeper Adrian played in the Super Cup.
And he was Liverpool’s hero, saving Tammy Abraham’s penalty in the shootout to earn Jurgen Klopp’s side their first trophy of the season.
And boss Klopp was quick to credit his new signing, harking back to cinematic classic, Rocky.
“What a story, ADRIAN! Like Rocky after he lost against Apollo Creed I think,” Klopp said.
“He kept his nerves. He is really loud in the dressing room already.
“It’s so good for him. I don’t think he’s won a lot in his life, so I’m really happy for him.
“It’s an amazing story – I don’t know where Adrian was two weeks ago when we played Man City (and had a penalty shoot out)!
“He is a great character, not just on the pitch, but off it.
“He was maybe louder than I was at half time. He is obviously quick in mind and helped us a lot and can be really proud
“When he came it was clear he needed time to get fit, I don’t know when he played his last game, but he was ready, and it is remarkable he was ready like that.”
Adrian himself admitted it had been a bizarre few days.
He said: “Welcome to Liverpool. It was a crazy week.”
“I’m really happy for the team, I’m happy to play for Liverpool and happy for the fans.
“It was a long game but in the end a great finish for us.”
