UFC star Conor McGregor has sesationally expressed an interest in buying Premier League club Liverpool. According to reports on Monday, owners FSG are listening to offers from parties interested in a takeover.
McGregor, who has a reported net worth of around £173million, has revealed that he has ‘requested information’ ahead of a possible bid. The Irishman is a lifelong Liverpool fan and has said he would ‘love’ to buy the club.
Replying to a fan urging him to purchase the European giants, McGregor responded by excitedly tweeting: “I WOULD LOVE IT! I requested my information on this, yes, [as] soon as I heard. What a turn of events! What a club!”
It is unlikely that McGregor would be able to buy the club outright, but the 34-year-old could join a consortium. Chelsea’s sale to the Boehly-Clearlake consortium for £3.5m in May could see Liverpool bought for a similar price.
Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley have been retained to help with the process of selling the 19-times English league champions. They have apparently already received plenty of interest in buying the club from FSG.
