Liverpool team news: Predicted 4-3-3 line up vs Southampton – Mane decision, Klopp dilemma

After a gruelling 120 minutes of action, the Reds will now have to ensure they’re fully focused for the trip to St Mary’s.

Southampton were thumped 3-0 at Burnley on the opening day of the season and will be keen to capitalise on the extra minutes in Liverpool’s legs.

Alisson remains sidelined with the calf problem sustained in the 4-1 win over Norwich last Friday meaning Adrian, the hero in Turkey, will keep his spot between the sticks.

While Klopp has always been a fan of rotating full-backs at the start of the season, the regular duo of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson should keep their place.

The German faces a dilemma at centre-back though, with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip competing to partner Virgil van Dijk.

Gomez is expected to keep his place after partnering the Dutchman against the Canaries.

In midfield, Fabinho is expected to shake off the cramp that almost crippled him during extra time at BJK Vodafone Park. He has run 26km in the space of five days in the opening two matches of the season.

Georginio Wijnaldum should start given that he was only a second-half substitute for James Milner.

Jordan Henderson could find himself on the bench after playing the full two hours, while Naby Keita was supposed to start against Chelsea.

The Guinea international picked up a problem in training before the clash, and is unlikely to be risked against Southampton.

That paves the way for Adam Lallana to return. He has taken up a new role in pre-season, designed by Klopp to help improve the team’s ball circulation.

In attack, Sadio Mane is expected to return to the fold after his impressive showing in midweek where he fired two goals on his return.

Mohamed Salah will also keep his place, he has scored on both of his previous outings to Southampton with Liverpool.

Roberto Firmino will lead the line after changing the game for the Reds against Chelsea.

Liverpool’s bench remains strong with the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Alex Oxlande-Chamberlain making up the numbers.

Liverpool predicted line up (4-3-3)

Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Lallana; Salah, Mane, Firmino.
