Guardiola was insistent that he would not be drawn on commenting further, though, shaking his head before suggesting that there would be no major arrivals at the Etihad Stadium in the winter window. He said: “We are not going to sell the squad in January. We have the squad that we have, we are pleased with that.”
Asked if the squad will stay the same for the remainder of the 2022-23 season, the City boss simply responded: “Yes.”
City are two points off surprise Premier League leaders Arsenal but remain strong favourites to win the top-flight for the fifth time in six seasons. Meanwhile, Liverpool have struggled in the opening months of a campaign that follows a season in which they played in every possible game.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are eighth having won just five of their 13 matches so far. A 2-1 win over Tottenham last weekend followed successive defeats by struggling Nottingham Forest and Leeds.
