A retired dog owner has died after being bitten by his Jack Russell, an inquest has heard. Mark Jones, 61, died in hospital on December 7, four days after suffering a bite wound from his pet dog, called Lili Lil Legs, and after telling his friends he felt “shocking”. The coroner said Mr Jones’ prognosis was “very poor” when he arrived at hospital and it was “probable” he had developed sepsis, a life-threatening condition which occurs when an infection causes organs to fail.
Coroner John Gittins said Mr Jones’ condition was “so far advanced” when he arrived four days after being bitten by his Jack Russell Terrier that it was not possible to save him.
He said: “The process was so far advanced that despite the best efforts and treatment he died of cardiac failure.”
Mr Jones’ wife, Yyvette, described her late husband as the “most loving person you could meet”.
She remarked how Mark, her husband of 18 years, would take Lili Lil Legs to the pub most days on the excuse that she needed some water.
Mr Jones reportedly walked his pet Jack Russell Terrier every night.
His widow said: “He was the kindest, most loving person you could meet. He just wanted to make Michael [his stepson] and I so happy. He lived his life for us.
“He was such a gentle, genuine, caring person and well-respected and loved by everyone who we came across.
“We went out for a couple of years, and then his work took him to London, so we split up.
