Man United transfer target Sean Longstaff in talks to sign triple-money £80k-a-week deal

MANCHESTER UNITED target Sean Longstaff is in talks with Newcastle over a deal that would TRIPLE his weekly wages, according to reports.

The Times say St James’ Park chiefs must improve his £25,000-a-week packet after valuing him at £50million this summer.

That was the fee Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was told he would have to hand over to sign the homegrown midfielder.

United were willing to offer about £20m and the talks stalled soon after that.

Now Longstaff, 21, can expect to earn a wage similar to Jonjo Shelvey, who was the club’s top earner on £80,000-a-week.

Summer signing Joelinton is believed to earn slightly more after completing his club-record £40m move from Hoffenheim last month.

Longstaff broke into the first team last season.

He impressed in 11 appearances and scored twice before a knee injury ended his season in March.

Reports have claimed that should United retain an interest in Longstaff then he could cost them £70m next summer.

According to the Daily Mail, United will now have to add £50m to their initial amount to secure his services.

The Old trafford side prioritised moves for Harry Maguire from Leicester, Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace and Daniel James from Swansea.

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has insisted throughout the summer that his club did not want to sell the English ace.

The manager said: “You never want to lose your best young players, and I think we’ve made it pretty evident that we won’t.

“We’re concentrating on Sean now, getting his knee right. It’s his 10th or 11th training session since he hurt his knee.

“I’ll just repeat what the owner said – he’s not for sale.”
