Benjamin Sesko was heavily linked with joining United before RB Leipzig swooped in to agree a deal for the highly-rated young forward while the likes of Erling Haaland, Dayot Upamecano and Antoine Griezmann have all slipped through their fingers in recent years. Finishing outside the top four in three of the last six seasons has cost them dearly and Ten Hag’s task will – much like his predecessors – be to return the club back to the top of the English pyramid.
The current United manager insists he’s hopeful of challenging for league titles within two years. But they can’t afford to miss out on top transfer targets down the line or risk losing touch to the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle, Manchester City and Liverpool among others.
Rabiot may not have been a game-changing signing for United for this season. But his declaration that United weren’t the “best choice” for him should ring alarm bells for the Glazers so that they once again are the only choice.
