That’s according to Red Devils hero Gary Pallister, who believes Rojo is behind Chris Smalling and Phil Jones in the pecking order.
Manchester United have somewhat of a centre-back conundrum following their world-record purchase of Harry Maguire.
Maguire joined United for £80million from Leicester toward the end of the transfer window but the club are now lumbered with seven central defenders as a result of the move.
Maguire slots right into a starting centre-back partnership with Victor Lindelof, but the likes of Smalling, Jones and Rojo are all waiting to get their chance.
Eric Bailly is also due to come back from injury while the club also recalled Axel Tuanzebe from his loan at Aston Villa.
And Pallister, who played alongside United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford, believes Rojo will be the first out the door.
“Rojo nearly left for Everton so obviously he looks as though he will be the one that would be let go, as United are willing to sell him on,” he told American Gambler.
“Jones and Smalling have been there for a number of years and are both internationals.
“So unless they get ridiculous offers, there’s no need to sell when you need a big strong squad.
“Along with Bailly there are probably one or two too many centre backs.
“So if they get offers then they may well look at them.”
Rojo is thought to be angry that he hasn’t managed to get his move away from United, who last week rejected a proposal from Everton, according to The Times.
Everton put forward a loan deal but United wanted a permanent transfer – a hiccup which is said to have frustrated Rojo.
The Argentine moved to United in 2014 from Sporting Lisbon for £16m and has amassed 73 Premier League appearances since then.
But the 29-year-old only featured six times in United’s 2018/19 campaign, in which the club failed to finish in the top four.
