In January 2008, United were well-stocked for forwards.
They had Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez and Louis Saha at their disposal – options many managers would dream of having.
But that didn’t stop the Red Devils signing Manucho, who was given a contract with the club after impressing in a trial.
The less said about his stint at the club, the better.
He’d make just one league appearance for United before leaving for Panathinaikos and later Hull City, while he retired from football back in 2019.
While Ferguson is one of the best managers of all time, his judgement wasn’t always bang on the money.
And Dong Fangzhuo is proof of that.
The China international joined from Dalian Shide in January 2004, with few knowing him previously.
After just one Premier League outing, however, Ferguson knew he’d made a mistake and the United flop was shown the door.
He had a period at Belgian side Royal Antwerp and would play his football in Poland, Portugal, Armenia and China again before quitting football in 2014.
