A single mum-of-three says she is too terrified to sleep after a hooded stranger slashed her car roof and daubed spray paint on it in the latest of a series of “vengeful” attacks on her home.
Michelle Stevens believes someone has been waging a harassment campaign against her over the last 18 months and is now “desperate” and “exhausted”.
She has seen dog mess repeatedly left outside her home, among other incidents, which means some of her family members will no longer visit over fears for their safety.
The 49-year-old has described her situation as ‘harrowing’, adding that she was too scared to return home for two days after the latest ordeal, reports the Liverpool Echo.
The incident, caught on CCTV footage, took place around midnight on Saturday and saw a hooded man walk up to her car before cutting the soft top roof with a knife and spray painting the bonnet.
To make matters worse, she was left with no car when her insurance deemed it a write-off.
Her three year-old grandson, who was sleeping just yards away when the vandalism happened, will no longer visit the home while fears for their safety remain.
After appealing for help from the police and local council, Michelle says she is ‘desperate’ to seek an end to the abuse.
She hopes someone can identify and report the person responsible.
She has become so fearful she leaves a bucket of water under the postbox in case anything on fire is shoved through in the night.
Michelle said: “It has been harrowing for my family for the last year, it really has. It’s gone to another level, I don’t know what they’ll do next.
“I’ve been waiting for something like this to happen to my car because it’s relentless.
“It’s the sheer brazenness that ‘we don’t care if your cameras see you’.”
According to Michelle, her car was the only one on the street targeted that night, despite there being others with soft-top roofs.
She said that footage from neighbours’ CCTV shows the criminal waiting until her bedroom light goes out before approaching, while a small white car is seen repeatedly driving in laps around the area.
Michelle, who works for the NHS doing diabetic retinal screening, lives in the Birkdale house with her 11-year-old daughter, who was sleeping out on the night of the attack.
The mum, who also has two adult daughters, moved to the area a little over two years ago and was initially very happy in her new home.
But around 18 months ago, the problems started and have only got worse since.
She said: “I just want them caught and I want as much help as I can from the community. I’m at the end of my rope and I’m at the end of my sanity.
“I’m trying to smile and get on with it but this is not funny, it’s harassing and vengeful. To do so many things, and stake out my house, it’s so scary and sickening. I just want the person caught.”
A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “We were called at 7.30am on Sunday 11th August to reports of criminal damage to a BMW 120D.
“Enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC, call 101 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 19100445210.”
