My boyfriend got hammered and snogged another girl — is it wrong for me to forgive him?

DEAR DEIDRE: AT my parents’ silver wedding party, my partner was hammered and snogged a girl in front of everyone – me, my parents, our family and friends.

I was so humiliated.

All our relationship problems came spilling out in front of everyone as we shouted and screamed at one another.

His friends all agree he was out of order, but should I forgive him?

We’ve been together for six months and were getting on really well before this. He is 24 and I am 23.

I keep telling myself that everyone makes mistakes. Drink is no excuse but he says it is the first time he has done something like that and he hates himself for it.

I feel so hurt and fear I will be judged if I admit I am willing to forgive him.

DEIDRE SAYS: If your partner was regularly wrecking your happiness with his drunken behaviour I’d say get rid, but everyone deserves a second chance.

Be firm with him that he must control his drinking and he owes your parents an apology as well as you.

Anyone who genuinely wishes you well won’t judge you – as long as it’s clear he’s really trying.
