Nick Kyrgios gives X-rated interview after US Open loss as emotional Aussie 'devastated'

Nick Kyrgios has said he ‘feels like s***’ after his US Open quarter-final defeat to Karen Khachanov. The Aussie was left devasted after losing the epic five-set match which means his wait for his first Grand Slam title goes on.

Kyrgios and Khachanov played out a marathon match under the lights of the Arthur Ashe Stadium. It was the Russian who eventually took the win, breaking the 27-year-old in his first service game of the final set, holding on to the advantage to claim a 7-5, 4-6, 7-5, 6-7, 6-4 victory.

However, the Australian will feel he had the chances to gain the upper hand in the encounter having taken just two of the nine break points that he created for himself. The third set may be a particular cause for regret with the world No 25 missing four opportunities to break before losing his final service game to go 2-1 down. He also had chances to break back in the final set but failed to make the most of them.

The frustration felt by the 23rd seed was evident after the match as he smashed two tennis rackets after shaking hands with his conqueror and match umpire James Keothavong.

“I’m really proud of myself,” he said. “I was really focused from the beginning to the end and I got the win. Thank you guys, my coach, my wife, my physio, my friend and agent. They’re here with me. They’re closest to me. I don’t like to see many people in the box, my mind is not clear.

“I mean, I would like to win it! The deeper you go, the expectation rises up.

“I made the step forward, I made my first semi-final. I have nothing to lose, I want to go for it and be ready for the next match and hopefully it’ll be a good one.”
