Footage shared online captured Naples locals gathering in the streets in front of the city town hall to protest against the soaring energy bills crisis that people in Italy are now facing. In the clip, protesters are seen burning their bills in a metallic basket as they scream “we don’t want [soaring bills] anymore”.
In the video, a crowd of furious residents appears to stand in front of the city town hall in an attempt to protest against the energy crisis that Italy and the rest of Europe are now facing.
Standing around a metallic basket, some locals are seen throwing their soaring energy bills into the basket in which they ignite a fire in an attempt to burn their bills.
As some locals burn the bills, some other residents are heard screaming “We don’t want [soaring bills] anymore!”
Standing in front of a line of police officers, the crowd is also seen singing protesting songs and showing placards raging against the government.
Boos and whistles are also heard standing from the crowd as local police officers try to contain the protest.
People also appear to use megaphones and flags as the protest continues in the streets of Naples.
Twitter user @The_Real_Fly, who initially posted the video, wrote: “NAPLES, ITALY: “We don’t pay the bills! Now it will be chaos!”.
Another user @Paulo Macro, who re-twitted the clip, commented “It’s September”, referring to the prospect of even more exorbitant energy bills later this winter.
