Workers have been evacuated from a building on Oxford Street due to a fire. Photos shared online show emergency services at the scene.
People in the West End of London have been advised to avoid the area while the flames are being managed.
The fire is close to John Lewis’s flagship store.
BBC journalist Chi Chi Izundu said “lots of smoke” could be seen at the site.
She wrote in a post on Twitter: “Outside the old department store next to John Lewis behind Oxford street.
“Loads of workmen evacuated and lots of smoke.”
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) has reported that it is dealing with a fire on a construction site in the area.
It said in a statement: “Firefighters are dealing with a fire in the basement of a construction site on Oxford Street.
“Please avoid the area if possible.”
