AT least five police officers have been gunned down in an “active shooter” attack in Philadelphia tonight.

Local reports say a gunman opened fire at around 4:30pm local time (9:30pm BST) at a house in the Tioga-Nicetown district.

A massive police presence has been deployed and witnesses report seeing cops dive for cover from a hail of bullets.

The injured officers have been rushed to hospital with three suffering non-life-threatening wounds, KYW News reports.

Police were initially called to the scene responding to alleged drug-related activities, Philadelphia Police Capt Sekou Kinebrew said.

Srgt Eric Gripp tweeted: “Shooting situation ACTIVE and ONGOING on 3700 15th St. Avoid Area.

“Several PPD Officers have been injured. Updates will be provided as received.”
