Princess Anne and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex curtsied as they welcomed the Queen’s coffin to Edinburgh’s Palace of Holyroodhouse this afternoon. The Queen will remain in the throne room of the palace overnight. Other members of the Royal Family, including Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, looked on as the coffin was taken into the palace.

Viewers of the moment, broadcast on live television, left many royal observers emotional.

The Palace of Holyroodhouse is the British monarchy’s residence in the Scottish capital city of Edinburgh.

The Queen’s arrival in Edinburgh was greeted with loud applause from a waiting crowd of royal fans.

Huge cheers rang out as the coffin was slowly driven along the Royal Mile in Edinburgh to Holyroodhouse.

Members of the royal household will be able to pay their respects to the coffin in private tonight.
