The Queen has died aged 96. According to an official statement, released by Buckingham Palace, the nation’s longest-reigning monarch died “peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon”. Last weekend, Prince Charles and his sister Princess Anne stepped in to represent the Queen at the Braemar Highland Games. Her absence was due to ongoing concerns over her ill health. Speaking on the latest episode of Royally Us, host Christina Garibaldi noted that the decision for the Queen not to attend “was made with her comfort in mind” and because it would mean “a lot of sitting in public view”.
Ms Garibaldi said: “She has been dealing with these mobility issues, who also sidelined her from this much loved late summer outing in Scotland.
“She usually makes an outing to see Braemar Highland Games, [which is] a short drive from Balmoral Castle.
“[The event] always occurs on the first Saturday in September.”
She added that the Queen’s two eldest children, Prince Charles and Princess Anne “filled in for her”, adding that this decision was “made with her comfort in mind”.

Ms Garibaldi continued: “It would mean a lot of sitting in full view of the public.
Both Ms Garibaldi and her co-host Christine Ross discussed the Queen’s most recent public appearance, welcoming in Liz Truss earlier this week.
Ms Garibaldi noted that Ms Truss was the Queen’s “15th Prime Minister”, with Ms Ross adding that “her first Prime Minister was Winston Churchill”.
Talking about her meeting with Liz Truss, Ms Ross said: “It was so good to see her, she did look a bit frail, but again, she’s 96.”

Shortly after her death was announced, her eldest son, and now King, Charles released a statement.
The statement read: “The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.
“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.”
