The Queen has died aged 96 a Buckingham Palace statement announced today – with the country now plunged into mourning. Her death marks the end of 70 years at the throne, and follows the death of her husband Prince Philip who died on April 9, 2021, aged 99.
The Queen is survived by her four children, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
World leaders, celebrities and political figures have all paid tribute to the monarch, who saw a staggering 14 prime ministers during her reign, from Winston Churchill to Boris Johnson.
