Royal author Angela Levin said she believes the Duchess of Sussex is using her links to royalty to “show off”. Earlier this week, it emerged Meghan sent a brief handwritten note to Ms Yarrow to thank her for appearing in one of the episodes of the Duchess’ podcast series, Archetypes. The kind message was shared online by Ms Yarrow herself, who published a picture of the simple white card featuring a golden “M” underneath a coronet at the top on her Instagram account. Ms Levin claimed Meghan, who signed off the message simply using her name, gets “more work and more attention” by retaining her title and the symbols that come with it.
She added to The Sun: “People think more highly of her if she’s got the title – and of course if she’s got the crown there… ‘wow that is absolutely amazing’.
“I think it’s related to being around celebrities, wealthy people, lots of work more money. She’s always interested in global. Everything she talks about is global.
“And if she’s working around the world with a picture of a crown, it’s a fantastic little helper politically because everyone will think: Oh my goodness she’s amazing – that’s what she thinks people will think. It’s just to show off really.”
Meghan and her husband Prince Harry stepped down as full-time working members of the Firm, a process dubbed Megxit, in the spring of 2020.
While they relinquished their official duties, returned their royal and military patronages and can’t use their HRH styles for their business ventures, the pair retained their full titles and the Duke of Sussex continues to be on the line of succession to the throne as well as one of the Counsellors of State.
