Former Scottish Conservative leader Ms Davidson and former-DUP leader Ms Foster are joining forces in a bid to protect the UK from the nationalists. According to reports by The Sun, on Saturday, August 20, the unionists will conduct a tour of the nation to highlight the benefits of staying together.

They report that Ms Foster will make appearances in all four nations – England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland – in a bid to shift the attention away from Scotland’s First Minister Ms Sturgeon.

A source said: “Arlene will hit the road with the likes of Ruth and show people what the union means.

“For too long it’s been the Nicola Sturgeon show, and it’s time to get people talking about what is so good about the union of four great nations.”

Nationalist Ms Sturgeon is pushing for a second independence referendum in Scotland next October.

Westminster has so far refused to permit a Scexit vote and forced fate into the hands of the Supreme Court.

The DUP also fears that since nationalists Sinn Fein won the most seats in recent Stormont elections, there will be growing calls for a border ballot in Northern Ireland.

SNP MP Stewart Hosie told The National: “It’ll take more than a whistle-stop tour from an unelected baroness and a far-right DUP politician to convince Scots of the supposed benefits of the Union.”

And Scottish Green MSP Maggie Chapman told The National she didn’t see the pair “packing out the town halls and theatres of Scotland”.

She added: “It’s a sign that things are getting desperate when Ruth Davidson and Arlene Foster are being touted as saviours of the Union.”

Ms Davidson also stepped back from frontline politics at the 2021 Holyrood elections so that she could focus on her family.

However, suggested earlier this month that she would be keen to lead a pro-Union campaign if a second independence referendum were to go ahead.
