Sneaky teen on tech ban outsmarts mum by getting on Twitter using smart fridge

Growing up, if our parents took away our phone, it just meant that we weren’t able to get to the next level of Snake.

But today’s generation lose a lot more when their mum confiscates their smart devices.

One teenager was recently so upset at the thought of not being able to go on Twitter while grounded, that she took drastic action to get on social media.

The sneaky 15-year-old, known only as Dorothy, found a number of other ways to keep on sharing tweets – including resorting to using her LG smart refrigerator.

She was very upset when her parents disciplined her

In a series of viral tweets, Dorothy, an Ariana Grande fan, updated her followers on her situation from various devices.

The first post was sent from her Nintendo 3DS and read: “I’m leaving forever. My mom took my phone. I’ll miss u all sm. I’m crying. Goodbye.”

The second tweet seemingly came from her mother: “I seen that Dorothy has been using Twitter on her Nintendo. This account will be shut down now.”

But the account remained active, and the teen then tried logging in on her Wii-U.

First she tweeted from her DS

When her mum took her DS she used her Wii U

It worked and this time she wrote: “My mom took my phone and my Nintendo DS so I have no choice but to use my Wii … thank u all for the support and love.”

Unsurprisingly, her mum once again caught her tweeting and she was left with nothing else to use – until she decided to test out the features of her smart fridge.

“I do not know if this is going to tweet I am talking to my fridge what the heck,” she said. “My mom confiscated all of my electronics again.”

The she tried tweeting from her fridge

While some had doubts that she was actually able to tweet from a fridge, it does appear that this really was the case.

The tweet’s source reveals that the post came from an LG smart refrigerator and the company’s website confirms that their devices do have social media capabilities.

Speaking to The Guardian (using her cousin’s iPad), Dorothy confessed the real reason she had been disciplined by her parents.

She claims that she accidentally started a fire after getting distracted by her technology while cooking.

So her mum took away her tech so she’d “pay more attention to [her surroundings]”.

“I felt mortified,” recalled the teen. “I was worried because I’ve been bored all summer and Twitter passes the time for me.”

Thousands of people have liked and retweeted Dorothy’s sneaky posts – and even Twitter and LG have joined in on the conversation, sharing a #FreeDorothy hashtag calling for the return of her devices.

It’s unclear how much longer the youngster will be grounded for.
