King Charles III has been “airbrushed” out of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix documentary, a PR expert has claimed. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s series debuted on the streaming platform this week, raising many topics of controversy as the couple targeted the Royal Family with allegations about racism and more. The production has sparked comment across the globe as viewers watched and digested what they had to say.
Harry and Meghan have denounced the way they are being treated by media and vowed to tell their side of “their story” and discuss the ongoing dispute with the British monarchy.
A personal relations expert has offered her professional opinion on how she thinks the release of the documentary series is affecting the couple’s publicity.
‘PR to the Stars’ Mayah Riaz told The Mirror: “There wasn’t much mention of The King in it – he was almost airbrushed out of it. In fact, the villain in the documentary was the British press.
“Overall, I don’t think the documentary damages the Royal Family at all. Not in the slightest. I am sure they are probably very relieved from what it was painted out to be.”
Upon release of the show, a row broke out over whether the royal family and the palaces were given the right to reply to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s controversial Netflix show.
A senior Palace source insisted Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace and members of the family were not approached for comment on content in the series.
However, a Netflix source insisted the communications offices for the King and the Prince of Wales were contacted in advance and given the chance to react to Harry and Meghan’s claims.
A senior source in the royal household countered the written statement “Members of the Royal Family declined to comment on the content within this series” which appeared on a black screen at the start of episode one.
Both Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace confirmed they did receive an email purporting to be from a third-party production company from an unknown organisation’s address and attempted to verify its authenticity with Archewell Productions and Netflix, but never received a response.
A source said: “In the absence of this verification, we were unable to provide any response. The substance of the email we received also did not address the entire series.”

“Now they are able to speak freely and tell their truth, I don’t blame them for setting the record straight. It’s from their mouths and not other people writing books about them.”
But controversy had sparked even before the release of the show, over the content that the trailers consisted of, including photos and clips
Speaking about the photos, Mayah said: “The trailers which were released before the documentary launched were revealed to be essentially stock images. That’s not down to Meghan and Harry, that’s down to Netflix.”
She added: “The documentary is a beautiful love story. It’s the couple speaking about their experiences of being part of the most famous family in the world. It contains information many people wanted to know.”
