Russian political scientist Sergei Markov has told British media that a nuclear war is now “possible” because of the “crazy behaviour” of Prime Minister Liz Truss and her predecessor Boris Johnson, suggesting London could be one of Putin’s main targets. Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Mr Markov issued a chilling warning in light of Putin’s speech this morning, accusing Britain, as well as US President Joe Biden, of being “fully responsible for the war in Ukraine” and suggesting Russia could launch nuclear warheads that “could kill a lot of people in the western countries”. The devastation wrought by such an attack cannot be understated, with Russia’s RS-28 Sarmat super-heavy intercontinental ballistic missile, colloquially known as Satan II on account of its capacity for destruction, capable of destroying entire countries.
Political scientist Sergei Markov was asked if Russia thinks a nuclear war could be won, to which he said: “I would say that everybody in this world now is thinking about nuclear war.
“This nuclear war could be a result of the crazy behaviour of the president of the United States Joe Biden and prime ministers of Great Britain Boris Johnson and Liz Truss.
“Biden, Johnson and Truss are fully responsible for the war in Ukraine.”
He added that such an attack on the West would “not kill everyone” but it would lead to the deaths of a significant number of people.
Before Radio 4 host Nick Robinson had asked a question to the interviewee, Mr Markov launched into an unhinged threat against the West.
Mr Markov said: “I would say to your British listeners that Putin is ready to use nuclear weapons against western countries, including Great Britain.”
Nick Robinson said: “Hold on a second. Let’s just make that clear. You believe that in [Putin’s] speech, there was a clear threat not just to use tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine but also to start a general nuclear war that would kill everyone.”
Mr Markov said: “Not everyone, but it could kill a lot of people in the western countries. It is absolutely clear that Russia has no war against Ukraine.

He added: “People in London should understand that this threat comes from Liz Truss, who is the aggressor. Stop the war against Russia on Ukrainian territory.”
Earlier this week at the UN General Assembly in New York, Liz Truss, following in Boris Johnson’s footsteps, doubled down on Britain’s commitment to Ukraine.
She pledged to at least match the £2.3billion invested in the defending nation since Russia invaded on February 24. Other western leaders, such as French President Emmanual Macron and Mr Biden, expressed their own intentions to continue supporting Ukraine.
The pledges, compounded by sustained losses by Russia and subsequent eastern retreats after weeks of successful Ukrainian counter offensives, has infuriated Putin, whose speech on Wednesday morning was branded by western commentators as nothing short of an admission that his side is losing the war.
