Volodymyr Zelensky’s troops have reclaimed land twice the size of Greater London since Wednesday, the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has reported.
In its latest intelligence update, the MoD reported that, following a counter-offensive from Ukraine, Russia has likely ordered the withdrawal of its troops from the entirety of occupied Kharkiv Oblast west of the Oskil River.
It added that, although small pockets of resistance still remain, “since Wednesday, Ukraine has recaptured territory at least twice the size of Greater London”.
The MoD has reported that Ukraine’s fierce resistance means the majority of Russian invaders are “highly likely being forced to prioritise emergency defensive actions.”
It said that the “already limited” trust deployed Russian troops have in their leaders is likely to “deteriorate further”.
