REFEREE Stephanie Frappart is set to make history tonight.
The 35-year-old will become the first female whistler to take charge of a major Uefa final when Liverpool meet Chelsea in the Super Cup.
Who are the refereeing team for the Super Cup?
ALL eyes will be on the officials as Frappart takes centre stage in Instanbul.
She is regarded as the best female official on the planet and took charge of the Women’s World Cup Final earlier this year.
In April, Frappart became the first female ref to take charge of a Ligue 1 match when she officiated a game between Amiens and Strasbourg.
Frappart followed in the footsteps of Germany’s Bibiana Steinhaus, who was the first female ref in the Bundesliga in 2017.
Only last month Frappart insisted she was solely focused on establishing herself in France.
Asked if she dreamed of taking charge of a men’s Champions League game, she said: “I have already climbed a few steps.
“The next step for me is to integrate well in Ligue 1. It’s not easy, we are challenged every game.”
Her full refereeing for the Super Cup features two other women and is as follows:
- Referee – Stephanie Frappart (France)
- Assistant ref – Manuela Nicolosi (France)
- Assistant ref – Michelle O’Neill (Republic of Ireland)
- Fourth official – Cüneyt Çakır (Turkey)
When is the match?
THE 2019 Super Cup is set for TONIGHT, August 14.
It is being held at the impressive Vodaphone Park in Instanbul.
Kick-off is at 8pm BST.
